Over 100 backpacks stuffed for the 2023/2024 school year!

Our economically vulnerable must make impossible choices every day...choosing between paying rent, paying bills or buying groceries. September often brings additional financial stress to families. For many, back to school shopping for all of the basic tools that will contribute to their child's success, shouldn't feel like an overwhelming barrier.

As we focus on recovery and rebuilding after the global pandemic, it has become increasingly difficult to ignore the disproportionate affect that our economically vulnerable populations have experienced.

2023 being the first year running our Backpacks for Success initiative, we hoped to fill 50 backpacks stuffed with supplies specific to junior, intermediate and senior local students for the 2023 - 2024 school year! Because of YOU we were able to stuff an amazing 103 backpacks that were distributed to the following:

  • Algoma District School Board
  • Huron Superior Catholic District School Board
  • Pauline's Place
  • Women in Crisis
  • Salvation Army
  • Indian Friendship Centre
  • Batchewana Health Care
  • SOYA
  • Social Services Hubs
  • Centre for Social Justice and Good Works

A special thank you to all of our donors, businesses and volunteers who helped contribute make this initiative possible! Because of you, we were able to support these students reach for the stars this academic school year.

A special shout out to our two major sponsor's: TD Canada Trust and Stone's Office Supply!

By continuing to work together to lift up our most vulnerable, we will build a stronger, more inclusive community for everyone.

If you have questions about this exciting initiative feel free to reach out to Rayna Evoy, our Fundraising Intern at revoy@uwssmalgoma.ca or by calling 705-256-7476 x 206
